Effective Today, Plastic Straws are Illegal in Palm Beach, Fl
Mark your calendars because today is the day the plastic straw died, at least in Palm Beach, that is.
Palm Beach is among the first municipalities in Palm Beach County to ban the straws.
This recent law, that essentially bans the use of single-use plastic straws and stirrers “being sold or distributed in the Town of Palm Beach,” goes into effect today, December 12, 2019.
At its July 9 meeting, the Town Council unanimously agreed to prohibit the sale, use or distribution of the straws and stirrers in commercial establishments and on town property.

“Town vendors and contractors using town facilities, special event permittees and their subcontractors, food service providers and retail establishments” won’t be able to escape the ban as they are also included.
Exclusions to the bill include “the use of a straw by any disabled person that requires or relies on the use of a straw to consume beverages and/or food supplements,” and in a locally declared emergency.
Restaurants and clubs in town, such as The Breakers, Sailfish Club and Surfside Diner, are leading the way voluntarily not offering plastic straws and stirrers to their customers.
